Nature Does Not Care

From the very beginning of time, life has been about opposites. Darkness covered the earth, and God said, "Let there be light. Thereafter, there has been night and day. There is good and evil, up and down, right and wrong, east and west, tall and short, wet and dry. That life has been, is and always will be about opposites, at one and the same time, life has been, is, and will always be about choices. Life being about choices, there is therefore no such thing as luck, but rather, consequences.

Put differently, all of life is about choice and consequence. We are always faced with opposites, whatever the issue, and consequences, since if I am headed east, I can't at one and the same time be heading west. The consequences of my actions are therefore pre-determined, regardless of my height, skin colour, school attended, money in the bank, who I know, where I am, or time of day. If I stand on the tallest building in the world and step off, there is only one outcome. That outcome or consequence is known to me before I step off. This is always true.

The more then that I understand that the outcomes of my life are determined by my actions, then determining what outcomes I want in my life will determine my choices, my actions. With this awareness, I no longer blame others for my circumstances, or count on luck to extricate me from those circumstances, if they are undesired. Rather, I take responsibility for my choices and the experiences I have had, are having, and will have in my life.

I understand then the instruction of ancient script, "no man can serve two masters", and "a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways". Life is about choices. Nature does not care what choice or choices you make. It only responds in accordance with the choice(s) you make. Work has its own reward, so too does slothfulness. Honesty has its own reward, so too does dishonesty. Giving has its own reward, so too does stinginess. Loyalty and disloyalty create different life experiences, so too do being responsible and being irresponsible. Nature does not care. You simply get to choose.
