Group Facilitation

Group Facilitation
Mining Collective Insight. Enabling Collective Ownership
None of us is as smart as all of us. - Ken Blanchard

Facilitation Is...

To be part of an organization today is to attend meetings, all kinds of meetings.  The reality for most people attending meetings is that they are poorly run and waste a lot of time.  Facilitation is the design and management of a group-centered process that fosters efficient and effective collaboration.  A process which ensures that all participants are allowed the opportunity to voice their opinions and have them discussed by the group, where all input is valued, and consensus achieved.

What Is A Facilitator?...

As facilitators, we use knowledge of group processes to formulate and deliver the needed structure for meeting interactions to be effective.  We focus on effective processes (meeting dynamics), allowing you and your team to focus on the content or substance of your work together.  We provide leadership without taking the reins.  Here are a few of the things we do.  We...

o       Help your team define its overall goal as well as specific objectives

o       Help members assess their needs and create plans to meet them

o       Provide processes that help members use their time efficiently to  make high-quality  decisions

o       Guide group discussion to keep it on track

o       Make accurate notes that reflect the ideas of members

o       Help the team understand its own processes in order to work more effectively

o       Make sure that assumptions are surfaced and tested

o       Support members in managing their own internal dynamics

o       Create a positive environment in which members can work productively to attain team goals

o       Foster leadership in others by sharing the responsibility for leading the team

o       Teach and empower others to facilitate

When Should You Use A Facilitator...

o       A visioning and/or strategic planning session

o       A meeting to clarify objectives and create detailed result indicators

o       A priority-setting meeting

o       A team-building meeting

o       A program review/evaluation session

o       A communications/laison meeting

o       A meeting to negotiate team roles and responsibilities

o       A problem solving meeting

o       A meeting to share feedback and improve performance
o       A focus group to gather input on a new program or product
